Get Smart.. or not!
How is it that so many dogs go missing? I have seen countless posts on social media about animals missing. The front door was left opened, someone left a gate open, the dog was spooked and escaped the harness or walking with a dog off leash and the dog bolted. I could go on, there are so many scenarios, and they all upset me. When it comes to our family pets, we are responsible for their well-being and their safety.
With so many dogs missing and many with no ID because they either don’t wear a collar with a tag displaying their name and contact details, or their microchip details are not up to date, I wanted to look at a few of the options we have as responsible pet owners when it comes to identification and tracking. I am focusing on dogs, however these products can be used for cats as well.

The Series 3 Fi Collar is lightweight, comes with a LED light for night, escape alerts and is a part of a subscription service and costs $19 USD per month. Check out the Fi Collar here. Purchasing the collar through this link earns me a commission, at no additional cost to you.
The Series 2 collar, for $129 and optional subscription for $99.
You know where your dog is, what they need at all times.
I believe the Fi Smart Collar is the smartest option available, though it is only available to dog owners in the USA, USVI and Puerto Rico. It is a fantastic piece of technology which can only connect to the AT & T network in the USA.
The Tractive GPS provides an excellent dog tracker with a subscription plan. Tractive features unlimited live tracking of your dog as well as monitoring their sleep and activity. Offering both a Basic plan at $144 annually and a Premium plan at $156 annually. Check out Tractive details here
The Apple Airtag for those dog owners using an iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy Smart Tag2 for Android users are also good options.
There are many trackers on the market all with their own pros and cons and I found it like falling down a rabbit hole when it comes to exploring all of the options available. For me personally I am a collar and tag gal, and I believe keeping the microchip details up to date is imperative. For a domestic dog, a family dog, it’s important to know where your dog is at all times, kept safe and secure.
